Whilst it is not possible for Altaro Office 365 Backup to back up Microsoft Teams directly, the documents and files shared in personal and group chats through Microsoft Teams can be backed up since they are stored in OneDrive for Business, thus since we are able to backup OneDrive & Sharepoint accounts, these shared files are also able to be backed up.

Please see below for a comprehensive list of items that Altaro Office 365 Backup can backup from Microsoft Teams:

Files shared on a 1:1 Teams chat
(e.g.: user1 sends a file in a private conversation to user2)

Files shared on a 1:M Teams chat
(e.g.: user1 sends a file in a group conversation to user2 and user3)

Files shared during a Teams meeting
(e.g.: user1 sends a file in the conversation during a video conferencing meeting)

Files shared on a Team Channel conversation
(e.g.: user1 shares a file within the ‘general’ channel of one of his Teams)

File created from within the document library of a Microsoft Team site

If you wish to backup the above files for your users, you must add their OneDrive and the relevant SharePoint Team Sites to Altaro Office 365 Backup.

Altaro Office 365 Backup does not support backing up any other MS Teams content such as:

User chats, Team channel conversations and posts, Team mailboxes and Team calendars, Team site pages, Team channels, Team meeting recordings, Team membership and group object, whiteboard used in meetings etc.

This list is not exhaustive.

Only items listed in the above table are backed up via the User OneDrive backups.

Restoring Files Shared on Microsoft Teams and Team Sites as above files can be done by running through a OneDrive restore procedure within Altaro Office 365 Backup, as described here.
