Thank you for participating in Altaro Endpoint Backup for MSPs BETA. The BETA period is over, so you can find the information you need in this article in order to switch to the GA Release of Altaro Endpoint Backup.

Note: A new installation of Endpoint Manager and Endpoint Agents is required, so previous configurations cannot be used or migrated. A new Azure storage account is also required for use with the official release; backups must be started from scratch if the same Endpoint Agents are going to be backed up.


With the conclusion of Altaro Endpoint Backup Beta, backups will proceed however these cannot be restored. Hence it's important to follow this guide to start a fresh new configuration alongside a fresh backup set to ensure that your backups are restorable.



Kindly follow the steps below in order to update your EPM and EPAs to versions 1.1.16


1. Setting up your new Endpoint Manager

  1. Make sure that your old Endpoint Manager machine that you used for BETA has been uninstalled from that machine.

    Are you going to use the same machine?

    If you plan on using the same machine you used during Beta to  for your new Altaro Endpoint Manager installation, you will need to clear out the previous configuration first. In that case follow the instructions below:
    1. Uninstall Altaro Endpoint Manager from 'Windows Add or remove Programs'

    2. Browse to C:\ProgramData\Altaro and delete the 'AltaroEndPointManager' folder

    3. Proceed with the rest of the guide

  2. On your CMC account navigate to [Setup] > [Configure EPM Server] and click [Replace Endpoint Manager]



  3. Next you'll be presented with an informational window, click on [Generate Access Code to Replace Endpoint Manager] and download the latest EPM setup file. This Access Code will be required to link your newly installed Endpoint Manager to CMC.

  4. Install the latest Altaro Endpoint Manager on your preferred machine and use the local user interface in order to link it to the CMC using the key provided in the previous step. Make sure that you select [Set up as a NEW Endpoint Manager] in this case.

  5. Navigate to [Setup] > [Configure EPM Server] > [Configuration Storage Location] and enter a Connection String of an Azure Storage account of your choice. This is a very important step as it you will require this configuration in order to restore if your current EPM configuration

  6. Finally, go to the [Dashboard] and follow the on-boarding wizard to configure your first customer and create their corresponding Access Key.


2. Setting up the Endpoint Agents

Note: Existing Customers with Endpoints registered during the Beta period have to be on-boarded by navigating to [Setup]  > [Backup Policies] > [Configure Backup Policies] before the existing Endpoints can be deleted from your CMC account (will be marked as disconnected).


  1. Are you going to backup the same Endpoints? If not, proceed to the next step.

    If you plan on backing up the same Endpoints you used for the BETA, you will need to clear out the previous configuration first. In that case follow the instructions below:
    1. Uninstall Altaro Endpoint Agent from all machines from 'Windows Add or remove Programs'

    2. Browse to C:\ProgramData\Altaro and delete the 'AltaroEndPointAgent' folder on all machines

    3. Proceed with the rest of the guide

  2. Next, Install and Deploy your Endpoints Agents

  3. Then go ahead and Approve your Endpoints
