IMPORTANT: Before proceeding, it's important that you pick the correct calculator for you. Select according to your

Backup sets started with 8.14 or newer

Azure

Note that GPv2 (General Purpose v2) is recommended as it will result in the lowest cost if you installed 8.14 or newer on a new installation OR if you started a fresh backup set to take advantage of the 8.14 performance improvements.

Altaro VM Backup makes use of General Purpose accounts in Azure, thus costs can be calculated using the below link: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/details/storage/blobs-general/

Costs will also change depending on the Replication strategy you choose when creating your Azure storage account. You can find more details about the different Replication strategies available in MS Azure here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/azure/storage/storage-redundancy

Amazon S3

With Amazon S3 storage it's important to note the following:

- [Versioning] must be disabled as this is not supported.

- [Default Encryption] must be disabled as it is not supported.  Altaro VM Backup already encrypts (256-Bit AES) natively before upload.

- Enabling [Logging] will incur higher costs to the account, thus it is recommended  to disable it

- [Block Public Access] should obviously be enabled since it contains your backup data which should not be publicly accessible

Wasabi

With Wasabi storage it's important to note the following:

- [Bucket Versioning] must be disabled and [Suspend Versioning] is selected as this is not supported.

- Enabling [Logging] will incur higher costs to the account, thus it is recommended to disable it

- [Public Access] should obviously be disabled since it contains your backup data which should not be publicly accessible

  • 20GB of changed data being uploaded per day
  • pricing as at 9th August 2019

Please note that this is rough pricing and will only give you an estimate from Microsoft Azure / Amazon S3 / Wasabi with regards to using their storage accounts and this is not Altaro's charge for backing up.

Backup sets started with 8.13 or older

Azure

Note that GPv1 (General Purpose v1) is recommended as it will result in the lowest cost if you started taking backups with version 8.13 or older and have not started from a fresh backup set. This is due to: "workloads with high churn or high read rates may benefit from this account type." Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/storage-account-options
