Physical server backup - Ad role

Hello,

Is the product suitable for backing up domain controlers?

That is, servers with supported OS server with AD role, Cert.aut. DHCP, DNS etc?

Can I make a secure backup of domain controllers?

Have you tried anyone, including recovery?

Is the backup made secure to the source server?

Thank you for your reply

The backups taken by Altaro would indeed be application consistent, however I would *never* recommend restoring a DC from backup unless you have no other options. Assuming you have let your DC be a DC, then the steps I'd recommend would be:

1. Seize FSMO from another DC in the domain

2. Remove the DC using the Metadata Cleanup procedure: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816907(v=ws.10).aspx

3. Re-install OS

4. Install AD

5. Replicate from other DCs in the farm

Much much cleaner this way, irrelevant of which backup application you are using :)

Hope this helps!

Yes, this is the right procedure - full agreement!

Unfortunately, it may happen that the second FSMO role is not installed or is not available.

It is therefore a backup of the highest emergency, I would say ...

Thanks for the info.
